BGC – Captain’s Message – 16th October 2023

Good morning,

The end of the main golfing season is nigh unfortunately, but there will be several social events to enjoy at the Club on the run up to the Christmas period.

It was good to see an enthusiastic turnout for our 2 clubhouse development presentations during the week. A huge thank you to Martin Dorman for arranging and presenting on the night along with Darren from A10 Architects. Martin and the development group have put in a lot of time and effort into this project on behalf of the Club so thank you all for your continued efforts on this and I hope everyone who attended found it engaging and informative. There were a number of questions raised across the 2 evenings which will be addressed & reviewed for further response in due course.

I hope to provide a further update on the Course development shortly along with some drone footage to give everyone a bird’s eye view of the progress to date.

The annual Kerr McKenzie Memorial Trophy was played for on Saturday which was well attended. It was the 40th playing of this popular event and it is always nice to welcome the McKenzie family and friends to the Club each year. We had a very popular winner this year in Match Secretary David Bryson, who played in the very first event back in 1983! Congratulations to David and also to Alan Colsh on winning the scratch trophy with an excellent score of 65. A big thanks also to David and Kenny Allan for arranging the event and prizes.

Results as follows:-

1st David Bryson – 37pts(won on countback)
2nd Gary McBain – 37pts
3rd Colin McKenzie – 35pts(countback)
4th – David McIlroy – 35pts

Best scratch: Alan Colsh – 65

The ladies now have their Winter Ringer event every Thursday. I hope the weather is kind through the coming months and many of you get the chance to play in this enjoyable weekly game.

A reminder that the gents 2 man Texas Scramble takes place this Saturday. This will be the final competition of the main season. There are still a few places available for this so please book in if you would like to join in what should be a fun way to end the season. For anyone who does not yet have a partner but would like to play, please just enter your name against one of the available time slots on the Club V1 app and we will look to pair you up with a fellow member. There will also be a few bottled beers on promotion to help raise a toast to the end of the golf season!

Finally, well done To Ewen Ferguson who secured another top 10 finish at the acciona Open de Espana on Sunday. Next up is the Andalucia Masters this coming weekend.

I hope to see you at the Club sometime soon.

Regards

Jon Maclean
