BGC – Captain’s Message – 17th July 2023
Good morning,
Anyone who was at the club over the last few days will have seen the progress made on the new 9th green and putting area last week which is really encouraging to see. A huge thanks to David McBride, John Brown and his Team who continue to work tirelessly to help push on our new course development whilst maintaining the existing course for play. Let’s hope for a better spell of weather soon which would certainly help!
A reminder that the 5th hole out of bounds has now been moved to the course side of the burn, 100 and 150 yard markers put in place on the fairway and a sign placed on the tee reminding all players to shout if a ball is heading anywhere near the trees/houses on the right hand side which will hopefully help to avoid any further issues on this hole. Please ensure guidelines are followed at all times and report any incident of a ball entering the area of trees or houses at the bar on completion of your round along with a time of the incident. Thank you!

Congratulations to all above. A reminder to all our relatively new members that there are club competitions going on regularly so please keep an eye on the club diary within the Club V1 app – it’s a great way of meeting new people and learning about all the various competitions going on at the club each year so please don’t hesitate to contact either myself or our Match Secretary David Bryson with any enquiries you may have in that regard.
Our Thomson McCrone Team played their last 16 knock-out Match at Helensburgh yesterday which ended in a 3-3 tie. The Match then went to a play-off which Bearsden unfortunately lost at the 1st extra hole. An excruciating way to go out but a brilliant effort by the McCrone Team in getting to that stage of the Competition and losing out so narrowly. I’m sure you will come back even stronger next year!
The Clubhouse was full once again on Saturday night – Past Captain Andy Tarbet and Mairi Mackinnon held a function having recently been married – congratulations to you both! Big thanks as always to Madeleine and the Team and all our bar staff for helping to make these events such a success.
Finally………………..another excellent week for Ewen Ferguson with a 12th Place finish in the Genesis Scottish Open which concluded yesterday. Ewen now travels down to Royal Liverpool for his Open Championship debut. A really exciting week ahead and the very best of luck from everyone at the Club Ewen!!
Regards
Jon Maclean
