BGC – Captain’s Message – 4th September 2023
Good morning,
I hope everyone enjoyed the warm sunny weather over the weekend and managed to get a game in.
There was more Bearsden success at the weekend! Our Team, Captained by Kenny Allan earned a nail-biting win in the DGU 4-Man Inter-Club Knockout Tournament against Douglas Park at Milngavie GC on Saturday afternoon. Played on a holes up/holes down basis in 4 singles games, the match was tied with the final game playing the 18th which Bearsden managed to win in dramatic fashion. This is the first time Bearsden have won the Competition since it was introduced just over 20 years ago so a massive congratulations to our Team on the day:- John Brown Jnr, Kenny Allan, James Conlon, Gordon Scott and also to Gordon McNee and Alan Shaw who were part of the Team in previous rounds.
Congratulations again to Alan Shaw who finished Runner-Up in the DGU Handicap Matchplay Singles also played at Milngavie GC on Saturday afternoon. A fantastic effort in reaching the final Alan – well done!
Chris Clark and Sam Sommerville have also reached the DGU Junior Champion of Champions Matchplay Final which is played today at Kirkintilloch GC so yet another Bearsden win is guaranteed! The boys have had another fabulous season and are going from strength to strength so best of luck to both of you for today and hope you have a great match, whatever the outcome.
It has been an incredible season for the Club so far and there may yet be more to come with our Jessiman Team looking to win that Competition for the first time in the Final on 17/9 – more to follow on that next week.

The Clubhouse was packed again on Friday evening for Andy Tarbet’s monthly quiz which was a great night as always Andy – many thanks to you, Madeleine & kitchen Team and Margaret’s bar team for all your hard work in making this event a regular success story in our Social Calendar.
Final reminder that the cocktail evening is this Friday in the Clubhouse and there are still a small number of spaces left so if you would like to attend, please book at the bar either in person or by phone. John Clougherty also sent an email at the weekend regarding our Christmas Party night in December. This has been very popular in the past so John is proposing 2 nights to avoid anyone potentially missing out if over-subscribed so please register your interest with John if you would like to attend.
