BGC – Captain’s Message – 31st July 2023

Good morning,

This coming Saturday is our Final’s day for several of our Matchplay competitions including the Gents, Ladies and Junior Club Championships. Congratulations to all those who have managed to reach a final so far. Any friends and family wanting to come along and cheer on any finalist is more than welcome to attend and use the clubhouse facilities for the day.

The Johnstone Cup took place over the weekend which is the qualifying competition for the Gents Club Championship. Despite the challenging conditions there were some good scores posted and congratulations to Paul Semple who won the Johnstone Cup with a combined score of 137, pipping Danny Lauder by a single shot. Results:-

Sat 29/7
Paul Semple – 67
Danny Lauder – 70
Craig Hughes – 71

Sun 30/7
Alan Colsh – 67
Danny Lauder – 68
Jon Maclean – 68

36 hole Totals:-
Paul Semple – 137
Danny Lauder – 138
Alan Colsh – 142

Best of luck to the 16 qualifiers who now battle it out during the week for a place in the Final on Saturday. The draw can be found in the ‘knockouts’ section of the ClubV1 app.

Unfortunately the Ladies medal competitions were cancelled on Thursday due to bad weather, although the Chrissie Anderson Match went ahead earlier in the week with Bearsden unfortunately losing out 0.5/3.5 to Hilton Park.

The Gents 9 hole Stableford took place on Wednesday:-

Colin McIvor – 21
Robert Dunan – 19
Alastair Burns – 19

Our Veterans McIntyre Team lost a very close match on Wednesday 2.5/1.5 with 3 games going to the 18th Hole. They play Balmore Away this week so best of luck!

Finally, a huge congratulations to one of our Junior Members Sam Somerville who won both the Glasgow Golf Union Junior strokeplay and matchplay events earlier in the week at Bishopbriggs GC. Fantastic achievement Sam and well done from everyone at Bearsden GC!

That’s it for now and I hope to see a number of you at the weekend for Final’s day.

Regards

Jon Maclean
