BGC – Captain’s Message – 29th August 2023

Good morning,

I hope everyone had a good weekend and enjoyed your golf if you managed to get a game in.

I’ve had the pleasure of reporting back on a number of Bearsden golfing successes recently and this week is no different! Two of our Juniors, Chris Clark and Sam Somerville, played in the Gents County Championship Strokeplay Championship at Hayston GC on Sunday and performed exceptionally again. Chris scored 71, 67 for a 2 under par total of 138 and finished in 3rd place. Sam had rounds of 73, 74 for a 7 over total of 147 for 13th place. Well done to both on representing the club so well yet again.

Chris also qualified for the Matchplay event this week, again at Hayston GC, and has won through to the semi-finals tonight. Great playing Chris and the best of luck for tonight from everyone at Bearsden. Anyone wishing to go along and cheer Chris on at Hayston GC will be more than welcome to do so.

Other results from last weeks club competitions:-

Gents 9 hole Stableford – Wed 23/8

Our McIntyre Veterans team played at Dumbarton GC last week, losing out to the better team on the day.

The final of the JS Mackie trophy was played on Sunday, with Paul McMillan / Alex Boyles beating Davie Bryson / Derek Morgan in a closely fought match. Well done gents.

Some excellent scores and congratulations to the Winners.

On Sunday, the Clubhouse was packed again for the Sunday Session which was a great success as always, so a big thanks to John Clougherty for organising and Madeleine & Team, along with the bar staff, for providing a top class service as usual.

A brief reminder that we have our monthly quiz night this Friday hosted by our own Past Captain Andy Tarbet – always a good night, followed by our Cocktail night hosted by The Scottish Gantry on Friday the 8th. There are a very limited amount of spaces left for this event so please book soon via the bar if you would like to attend.

More to follow in a couple of days, with full details of the DGU Finals taking place at Milngavie this coming Saturday in which we already have representation.

Enjoy your week, whether it involves golf or not!

Regards

Jon Maclean
