BGC – Captain’s Message – 22nd July 2024

BGC – Captain’s Message – 22nd July 2024

Good morning,

Last week was another landmark in the course development project with the commencement of the phase 2 layout which has opened up another 3 of the new greens. This was great to see and for anyone who played over the last few days, I’m sure you’ll agree the new holes are looking fantastic.

As previously advised, there are still some rutted areas on new holes 3 & 4 which require growing in so please follow the advice emailed last week around taking appropriate drops from these areas and any areas marked ground under repair. It is more important than ever that we all do our bit by replacing divots and repairing pitchmarks on the greens – thank you!

The Ladies and Gents July Medals were played over the weekend and results as follows:-
Gents Division 1
A Colsh – 55
B Brown – 56(BIH)
K Allan – 56

Gents Division 2
S McAllister – 53(BIH)
D McBride – 53
T Doherty – 55

Gents Division 3
I Burrows – 52
G Littlejohn – 58
A Sliman – 70

Ladies July Medal
K Garrett – 64
Scott – 70
B Walker – 72

Well done to Alan, Stephen, Ian and Kirsty on their wins and a special mention for our new Club Champion Alan Colsh who returned a scratch score of level par 58 – well played Alan!

Finally, The Open Championship reached its climax yesterday at Royal Troon and congratulations to Xander Schauffele who lifted the Claret Jug with an exceptional final round of 65. Huge congratulations also to Ewen Ferguson who not only made the cut but with excellent rounds of 70 and 71 over the weekend secured a tie for 22nd place in only his 2nd Open Championship – well done Ewen and the very best of luck as you continue another great season on the DP World Tour.

Hopefully the weather is kind to us over the coming weeks and I hope everyone enjoys their golf.

Kind regards

Steven Scott
