BGC – Captain’s Message – 14th August 2023

Good Afternoon

It’s always great to be able to report on Junior successes at the Club and a couple of events last week allows me to do just that.

Huge congratulations to Chris Clark who won the Dumbartonshire Junior Strokeplay title last week over Hilton Park’s Allander course, with a very impressive level par round of 69. Well done Chris – fantastic achievement! Sam Somerville also finished 4th with a round of 72. Both now take part in the Matchplay event this week, best of luck to both of you!
Yesterday, Bearsden hosted the final leg of the Golf Sixes Dumbartonshire B division, which includes Helensburgh GC,Douglas Park GC and Bishopbriggs GC. This event is for our younger Juniors playing over 6 shortened holes and the Clubs host one event each. I’m delighted to announce that Bearsden finished in top spot at the conclusion yesterday, so a massive congratulations to all our young players who have taken part. I think this is testament to the great work being put in by Alan Duncan and professional Andrew McArthur with our Junior coaching programme and also the continued input and assistance of our Junior Convenor Andy McNee.

Best of luck Ewen and here’s hoping for another great week!Finally, our Gala weekend is nearly upon us and Vice Captain Steven Scott will be issuing an email regarding that shortly. I’m sure this will be an enjoyable weekend for all who have entered. All we need now is the weather!
