Bearsden Golf Club Named National Finalist in 2026 BIGGA Greenkeeping Project of the Year Awards
National recognition for course transformation and excellence in greenkeeping
Bearsden Golf Club has achieved national recognition after being named a finalist in the 2026 BIGGA Greenkeeping Project of the Year Award.
In an exceptionally competitive field, Bearsden progressed to the final ahead of submissions from some of the most prestigious golfing venues in the country. The judging panel placed Royal Birkdale — host of The Open Championship in 2026 — alongside Bearsden, with both narrowly missing out to Royal Aberdeen.
The finalist award recognises clubs that have delivered ambitious, high-quality renovation and improvement programmes, demonstrating excellence in innovation, sustainability and project management.
A Transformational Investment in the Course
Bearsden’s recognition follows a full course rebuild led by renowned golf course architect Graeme Webster of Team Niblick. All green complexes were constructed to full USGA specification — a standard typically associated with championship venues.
This major redevelopment represents a transformational investment in the long-term quality, playability and sustainability of the course. It firmly positions Bearsden among the elite of British golf course management.
Course Manager David McBride, who attended the awards ceremony in Harrogate to accept the runner-up award, said:
“To be recognised at national level alongside clubs like Royal Aberdeen and Royal Birkdale is incredibly special for our entire team.
This project has been a huge undertaking and I’m immensely proud of the commitment, skill and professionalism shown by everyone involved. Competing with — and performing alongside — such famous venues shows just how far Bearsden has come. It’s a fantastic reward for a lot of hard work.”
A Team Effort
Club Captain Stuart Craig added:
“This award recognises the patience of our members during our course rebuild, the huge contribution of our volunteers and the exceptional work of David McBride and his team.”
Club officials described the result as a tremendous endorsement of both the quality of the redevelopment project and the professionalism of the greenkeeping team — reinforcing Bearsden’s growing reputation for excellence in course presentation and management.
