Finally, here is a proud Stuart Holt being presented with the trophy by Club Captain Mark Ferguson. Eilidh Ferguson won't be too pleased she has been up-staged by Dad! She'll have to learn to keep a keen eye on where the camera is!

Cameron Kirkwood wins the Junior Johnstone Cup

Ewen, Cameron and CameronCameron and the Junior Johnstone TrophyWith a fantastic second round of 66, Cameron Kirkwood has won the Junior Johnstone Cup.

Runner up was Ewen Ferguson, with Cameron Smith in third place. You can see all the results by clicking here.

The weather for both rounds was bright and sunny, and over the two rounds eleven players beat their handicap in one round or the other.

At the end of the competition, in his acceptance speech, Cameron thanked all those involved, particularly Pat Lambie who presented the trophy and was delighted with the good turnout and performance by "her" juniors!

Ewen Ferguson, international traveller!

Ewen FergusonAfter a good show in the recent Junior European Masters in the mountainous Soto Grande region of Spain, where he finished tied for 10th place, Ewen continues his good run with a scratch score 70, finishing in second spot in the Scottish Boys U16’s winter series at St Andrews. After starting with 3 straight bogeys followed by three straight birdies, Ewen preceded to finish strongly under the watchful eyes of the SGU Scottish Team selectors.

This result leaves Ewen in fourth position overall in the current Order of Merit U16’s. A good final round at Troon, Darley, next month will surely see Ewen earn his place in the Scottish team for the forthcoming quadrangular event.

Good luck Ewen from everyone at BGC!

Junior Prizegiving

Bearsden Golf Club's 2010 Junior Prizegiving was held in early December, when the Junior section, parents, families and friends came along to see their loved ones receive their prizes and awards for all their hard work this season. Click here to see the photographs from the event.

Ewen Ferguson, Cameron Smith, Bradley Kelly and Cameron Kirkwood took time out afterwards to test their game on the rather fast conditions provided by the snow and ice! The more they practise, the luckier they get!

Ewen, Cameron S, Bradley & Cameron KThe season's major winners were Ryan Clougherty, the 2010 Club Champion, Ewen Ferguson, Johnstone Cup winner and our under 18 (at 14!) Narrow loss for our Juniors in the DGU Final

BGC Junior TeamBryan BrownCameron Kirkwood

At the end of a very exciting home match against Windyhill, towards the end of last season, our Junior Team managed to win 4-2 to get through to the Final of the Dumbartonshire Junior Team Championships.

The final itself was postponed owing to bad weather, and was played on 23rd May at 8.30AM.

Ewen FergusonKane ForresterPictured here are the team and team management (top) and some individual members of our team in their new team kit, kindly sponsored by Nexus Packaging and Merkland Tank. In the match, Ewen Ferguson and Cameron Kirkwood (both at left) won their singles matches, and Kane Forrester / Bryan Brown halved their foursome match, unlucky not to win it on the 18th.
So after a very spirited performance, our team narrowly lost 2½ - 3½ to Douglas Park.

Cameron & Ewen's Scottish progress

Cameron KirkwoodOur Junior boys have been doing well in the Scottish Under-18 Championships at West Kilbride.

Over Easter weekend, Cameron Kirkwood won through in the first and second rounds of the Scottish under-18 Matchplay Championship, a scratch competition.

Cameron won his first Round 2 & 1 and his second round 4 & 3. He played Wednesday 7th April in the third round, winning through to the fourth Round, the round of the last 32. This is where his competition ended, but we must remember this is a competition for Juniors up to 18!

Ewen FergusonEwen Ferguson won his first round against the winner of the  West of Scotland Boys last year, winning on the 19th hole. He played his second round on the 7th too, but unfortunately lost on the final hole.

Well done Cameron and Ewen, and let's hope you can do even better next year as some of those 18 year-olds move to the senior ranks!
